Parmis Hakimi (b. 1989, Tehran) is a Tehran-based visual artist with a background in Information Technology (IT) and Graphic Design. Working across painting, photography, and installation, her artistic research focuses on personal, familial, and public archives, exploring themes of memory, loss, presence and absence, and the fading of images.
In Hakimi’s practice, the archive serves as a space for establishing connections between the past, present, and future. Through the reconstruction, erasure, and transformation of archival images, she investigates the layers of memory and the traces left behind by what has disappeared. The concept of the palimpsest informs her work, referring to layers that retain traces of what once existed, even after being covered or erased. This approach also emerges in her colored pencil works, where the accumulation and density of dots give rise to forms that gradually dissolve. Through this process, the image moves between emergence and disappearance, reflecting on the relationship between memory, loss, and the persistence of traces over time.
ARTWORK PREPARATION
Every artwork is shipped according to its location.
For the safety of the artwork and to facilitate international transportation, works located in Iran are professionally rolled and packed in archival shipping tubes. Paintings on canvas are carefully removed from their stretcher bars prior to shipment and should be professionally re-stretched and framed upon arrival.
