Masoumeh Mohtadi was born in 1983 in Isfahan, Iran. She received her BFA in Painting from the Islamic Azad University, and later she graduated from the Alzahra University with an MFA. Painting was Mohtadi’s’s main media until 2014 that she began researching and studying linguistics. While commonly language and words are considered the principle vessels of communication, Mohtadi’s belief that language in its core is a great misunderstanding, has changed and reshaped her artistic path. In line with linguistic theories and by utilizing medias such as “Artist’s Book” and “Installation”, Mohtadi intends to challenge the absolute nature of language and other five senses. In addition to her two solo exhibitions, Mohtadi’s work has been showcased in more than twenty group exhibitions, including the eleventh Fajr International Visual Arts festival at Vahdat Hall (2019), seventh biennial sculpture exhibition at Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art (2018), the second Vista festival (2018), the Echo Arts International exhibition at Kunsthalle Budapest Hall of Art (2017), sixth annual Press-Book Contemporary Art exhibition at Niavaran Cultural Center (2017), the first Nafs Visual Art Festival (2017) and the second Faber Castell art festival at Niavaran Cultural Center (2009). Mohtadi has received number of honors and awards including the first-place award in the 11th Fajr International Visual Arts festival and the 6th annual Press-Book Contemporary Art exhibition, the second-place award in the first Nafs Visual Art Festival. She was also one of the final selected contenders at the second Vista festival. Masoumeh Mohtadi currently lives and works in Tehran, Iran.
