Aida Balanchi

Aida Balanchi (b. 1995, Shiraz, Iran) is a visual artist and painter. She received her BA in Architecture from Islamic Azad University of Shiraz and earned her MFA in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Tehran in 2018.

Her work is rooted in an ongoing reflection on the human condition, presence and absence, and the relationship between being and non being. This inquiry began with a confrontation with the fear of death and questions surrounding the meaning of existence. Initially, these concerns emerged through vast and sparsely populated landscapes spaces marked by silence, solitude, and a sense of emptiness.

Over time, influenced by lived experiences and events unfolding around her, the human figure gradually entered her work. In Balanchi’s paintings, human presence occupies an uncertain position, constantly shifting between significance and insignificance, between being and disappearance. Graffiti, traces, and human marks frequently appear throughout her work, serving as reminders of humanity’s persistent desire to leave evidence of its existence within an unstable world.

Her practice combines oil painting with monoprint and gel-print techniques. Through layered printing processes and painterly interventions, she creates images that move between memory, reality, and imagination. This layered approach allows her to address her concerns indirectly, through signs, erasures, and the remnants of human presence.

For her, painting is a space for reflecting on the paradoxes of existence a place where human beings can be, at once, both everything and nothing.
