Ameen MoAzami (b. 1993 Gonbad-e Kavoos) observes his surroundings through the shifting roles of student, soldier, traveler, or unsettled Tehran resident. He first came to the capital for his Master’s degree and becoming a painter, and even now he is unsure whether he belongs as an insider or passes through as a tourist. Yet he remains an attentive witness to the city, moving from its abandoned and unsafe corners to its elite sites—galleries and, most notably, the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art. His practice moves across different media, often drawing directly from everyday Tehran life. A subway card, a debit card, or an obsolete coin might surface in his work, each a modest object that speaks of economic realities and personal navigation within the city.
